Mars Education Center Opening & Construction
Thank you to all the people who supported the construction of the Deborah Clarke Mars Education Center. The $23 million project rebuilt the magasin du Roi (King’s Warehouse), built by the French in 1756 and intentionally destroyed in the face of a British siege in 1759. The restoration was grounded upon extensive historical and archeological research. The exterior design is completely accurate to our current knowledge of 18th-century French military masonry construction, and Canadian engineer Michel Chartier de Lotbinière’s design of the building. The interior meets the needs of modern visitors with 21st-century facilities.
If you are a New York State taxpayer, the Empire Zone Tax credit program rewards gifts specifically for the Deborah Clarke Mars Education Center. Your support for this project may generate New York State income tax credit on your taxes equal to 25% of the amount of a contribution, even if your gift was made in previous years. This incentive is in effect through June, 2010.
