Revolutionary War Encampment
September 6-7, 2008, throughout the day
Battle Reenactment each day beginning at 2:00 p.m.
| Each year on the weekend following Labor Day, Fort Ticonderoga focuses its
attention on the American Revolution. Over 500 re-enactors come together at the
Revolutionary War encampment to highlight Fort Ticonderoga's pivotal role in the
early war years. Re-enactor portrayals include British Regulars, Loyalists
(Americans loyal to King George), German auxiliaries, Native Americans,
Continentals (American Regulars) and militia. |

Encampment activities take place throughout the day. A guided tour of the
encampment each morning brings you into the 18th Century. You will
see how soldiers and their families lived on campaign, what they wore, what they
ate, and the kinds of duties they had to perform. You may also tour the camps on
your own anytime during the Fort's open hours. On Sutler Row, vendors known as
"sutlers" sell a variety of reproduction goods ranging from woolen and
linen cloth to muskets and swords. Each afternoon the opposing forces meet in a
demonstration of 18th-century battle tactics. You will receive a
detailed schedule of activities at the Admissions Desk.
Members of the Friends of Fort Ticonderoga are invited to join
us for a Saturday evening concert presented in camp by the Fort Ticonderoga
Corps of Fife & Drums, followed by a truly awesome display by the massed
British and American cannon crews: an artillery feu de joie (fire of
joy). Please contact Annie McCarty
regarding membership in the
Friends Program or for details on the evening's activities.
