Research Center, Fort Ticonderoga
Current: Wednesday, February 14, 2001
Preserved in the Thompson-Pell Research Center, Fort
Ticonderoga’s research collections consist of 13,000 rare books as well as
extensive collections of artifacts, artworks, maps, and manuscripts. These
definitive collections include diaries, journals, orderly books, military
manuals, and memoirs documenting 18th-century Native American, French, English,
German, and American military activities in the Lake George / Lake Champlain
valleys during the Seven Years’ War and the American Revolution.
The Fort Ticonderoga research collections are available for
study by appointment, but for preservation reasons do not circulate. Researchers
are encouraged to write in advance outlining the nature of their work so that
staff can be prepared to help them. Please direct inquiries to the Curator of
Collections by writing to:

Year-round Research Center hours are by appointment
Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to noon and 1 PM to 4:30 PM.
Fort Ticonderoga Bibliographies have been prepared by
museum staff primarily as guides to the manuscript and rare-book collections
preserved in the museum’s Thompson-Pell Research Center, but also include
other materials. These Research Bibliographies are computer-based
to provide for easy updating. Researchers are encouraged to suggest additions or
corrections. Because so many facets of the Fort’s story are inter-connected,
researchers should also check bibliographies for related subjects.
Bibliographies available on this web site are highlighted.
Others may be photocopied from originals at the Fort by emailing mail@fort-ticonderoga.org.
