Living History: Fort Ticonderoga
This three-credit hour graduate course will be offered July 16-21,
2006 and August 13-18, 2006 by
Fort Ticonderoga and the Living History Education Foundation. Teachers
spend five days at Fort Ticonderoga learning with other fellow teachers
a wide array of hands-on and content-oriented sessions to help teachers
develop ideas on how to bring history to life for students in your
classroom.
The program, now in its fifth year, is designed by retired middle
school social studies teacher Joe Ryan of Buchanan, New York and Fort
Ticonderoga staff. Joe has first hand experience using living history in
his 7th and 8th grade history classes for 29 years.
The session culminates with the teachers donning 18th century
clothing, setting up military camp, cooking dinner over an open fire,
and spending the night on Fort Ticonderoga grounds.
The Living History Education Foundation will cover costs for
meals and overnight accommodations at a local motel for teachers who
take the class.
