Richard Berleth, author of Bloody Mohawk
Author Richard Berleth chronicles the bitter battles in New York’s Mohawk
Valley during two wars between 1755 and 1781. Richard Berleth teaches
at St. Francis College in Brooklyn and is the author of several other titles.
Followed by a book signing in the Museum Store at 3:00pm. Included in

Tour the gardens with herbalist Nancy Scarzello as she explains how
colonists used plants to make teas, salves, poultices, and more for healing

at the mouth of the LaChute River below Fort Ticonderoga. Meet at 9:30
in the Fort’s main parking lot. Canoes, PFDs, paddles, and instruction is

Russell P. Bellico, author of Empires in the Mountains
Author Russell Bellico covers the epic battles of the French & Indian
War in the lake valleys, as well as the arduous task of building forts and
warships in the wilderness of northern New York. Russ Bellico is the
author of several books related to the history of the Lake Champlain and
Lake George areas. Followed by a book signing in the Museum Store at

Richard B. Smith, author of Ethan Allen and the Capture of Fort
Ticonderoga
Author Richard B. Smith will discuss the historic capture of Fort
Ticonderoga on May 10, 1775, that provided the colonists with important
artillery essential in continuing the war against Great Britain. Richard
Smith lives in Manchester, Vermont, and is also the author of The
Revolutionary War in Bennington County: A History & Guide. Followed
by a book signing in the Museum Store at 3:00pm. Included in the cost of

Carl R. Crego, author of Fort Ticonderoga: Postcard History Series
Author Carl Crego will focus on the early restoration history of Fort
Ticonderoga between 1908 and 1924 with an illustrated talk. Carl Crego is
a member of the Fort Ticonderoga Association and continues to work on
other writing projects. Followed by a book signing in the Museum Store at

minute walk and talk, touring the herb Garden, garden grounds, and field
edges. Learn about the traditional and folkloric uses of herbs and wild

Day-long bus trip
Join Dr. Leonard Perry of the University of Vermont Extension and
Heidi Karkoski, Curator of Landscape, for a day trip via coach bus to
the Montreal Botanic Gardens, featuring their famous Chinese lantern
display. An open schedule allows you to explore the gardens, greenhouse
conservatories, and insectarium on your own. Carpool from Ticonderoga;
bus departs Burlington. Registration is limited and must be received
before August 30, 2010.“Introduction to Herbal Preparations”—September 14

Herbalist Nancy Wotton Scarzello teaches harvesting and preparation
techniques for simple herbal products for home use. Using fresh herbs
harvested from the Fort’s gardens, learn the proper ways of making teas,
herbal oils for massage, a salve, and lip balm. A hands-on demonstration,
handouts, and products to take home are included. Fee: $25; pre-

James Nelson, author of George Washington’s Great Gamble
Author James Nelson will talk about the naval battle between French and
British fleets in the Chesapeake in September 1781 which leads to the
American victory at Yorktown the following month. James Nelson writes
about naval history during the American Revolution, and is also the author
of Benedict Arnold’s Navy. Followed by a book signing in the Museum
